Hello Survivor,

We have received several messages inquiring about donating to Breaking Code Silence. The process of becoming a 501(c)(3) organization is long with multiple steps.
Breaking Code Silence became a California nonprofit public benefit corporation on 3/22/2021. The next step 0 to have the 501(c)(3) exemption approved by the IRS at the federal level. We submitted the tax exemption application to the IRS with letters from donors, which will expedite this process. Once the IRS issues our tax exemption, it will be granted retroactively to our date of nonprofit incorporation on 3/22/2021. Then we can receive funding through various grants and private donations, and we will also be able to confirm that any donations made to Breaking Code Silence are eligible for deduction on your personal income taxes. We expect that the IRS will grant our federal exemption in the next few months, but we cannot make advance assurances about your donations or when the IRS will issue the exemption. As such, while we are incredibly grateful for the support from our community, we are not seeking donations at this time.
