PRESS RELEASE: Breaking Code Silence Announces 501(c)(3) Status to End Child Abuse in Residential Facilities

Pasadena, California, April 10,2021 – Breaking Code Silence, is proud to announce it is now officially a nonprofit with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. Breaking Code Silence is also now eligible to apply for government and foundation grants, which will further broaden its access to resources and strengthen its ability to provide meaningful services to survivors of institutional child abuse while working to advocate for regulations within the industry.

“Obtaining 501(c)(3) status enables Breaking Code Silence to provide survivors of the troubled teen industry a closer community of support,” remarked Joshua Scarpuzzi, Media Relations Lead at Breaking Code Silence.  “The granting of a nonprofit status to Breaking Code Silence is a milestone for our growing organization, and we are excited to begin the groundwork of advocating, legislating, and educating to change the ‘troubled teen industry’ for the good of those children who are still living the abuse every day” he added.

Since its formation in 2008, Breaking Code Silence has been providing survivors of abuse a casual environment to share experiences and discuss solutions to the complex problems that children in congregate care face.  To help guide the organization and ensure fulfillment of its mission, a volunteer Board of Interim Directors and supportive committees with a shared experience of being survivors themselves was assembled to begin building the organization from the ground up.

Breaking Code Silence holds its first virtual event in celebration of the announcement on Friday, April 30th, 2021 at 6pm Pacific on Twitch @BreakingCodeSilence
